introducing cpshop 1.4b.a/1.4b.b
Another maintenance release, fixing today's CafePress page change, a few minor bugs, and adding a minor feature.
The new feature, in case you're interested, gives you the option of sorting the store links on the homepage by row, instead of by column.
changes in cpshop 1.4b.b
- fixed CafePress page format change
- fixed 2x2 additional product photos change
- added backup code for servers misreporting LWP access
changes in cpshop 1.4b.a
(see below for a more involved explanation of these changes)
- fixed CafePress page format change
- fixed multiple template/Windows bug
- added horizontal homepage ordering option
If you haven't already installed cpshop, use the contents of cpshop1.4b.a-full.zip to do so. If you have installed it...
how to upgrade
- Unzip the contents of cpshop1.4b.a-update.zip. Be sure you use the "update" zip file -- and NOT the "full" zip file -- to upgrade!
- Upload the contents of the zip file to the cpshop directory on your server.
- Go to your admin screen, and clear your cpshop cpcache. (Check the "Empty Cache" checkbox and save your changes.)
- If you haven't already created a sub-directory called "cplogs", do it now, and make it writable (usually with "chmod 777 cplogs").
- Test your store.
about the changes
added horizontal homepage ordering option
Right now on the cpshop main page, your store IDs are divided up vertically, or into columns, like this:
| store1 | store4 | store7 |
| store2 | store5 | store8 |
| store3 | store6 | store9 |
By request, I've added the option to have your homepage store ID list organized horizontally, or into rows, like this:
| store1 | store2 | store3 |
| store4 | store5 | store6 |
| store7 | store8 | store9 |
It's not a major change, but it does give you some homepage flexibility.
the last word(s)
I've been dealing with a lot of life-stuff lately, and so I haven't had the opportunity to add some of the newer features I've wanted to add.
However, I'd like to keep you abreast of what I'd like to add next. In no particular order:
- a slicker wildcard system;
- a better-integrated currency converter;
- product search;
- a product rating system;
- a basic mailing list manager;
- a javascript-based random product include; and
- an advanced template system (so you can use your cpshop template on non-cpshop pages).
As for the shopping cart, I've been informed by CafePress that they've deprecated any support for outside shopping carts. What that
really means is that even if I did put the effort into building a cart, it wouldn't be capable of offering color selection. I'm not sure
if I want to do that, so I'm still thinking about it. I think there are plenty of other things to occupy my time until then.
By the way, if anybody's seen my suit, please let me know. I have a wedding to go to on Saturday, and my best suit is missing. (How on earth
could I have misplaced a suit?) So if it's somehow magically ended up in your closet, give me a shout. Stranger things have happened.
As always, let me know if you have any problems with this, either via or
posting on the message board.
Regards,
Marty
